New Jersey Attorney General needs bolder stance when dealing with police time theft (L.A. PARKER COLUMN)
Apr 03, 2025
A New Jersey Attorney General release offered this plot line.
Susaida Nazario, 44, was charged on March 25 with accepting unlawful benefits as a public servant, theft by deception, two counts of official misconduct, and pattern of official misconduct.
“This case underscores our commitment to ensur
ing there is accountability when public employees violate their duty and the public’s trust,” said Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. “As alleged, this defendant used her position and access to DCF records in order to obtain and divulge confidential information for her own financial benefit.”
Stop. Please. Mr. Platkin displays incredible chutzpah after his office declined involvement when seven Trenton police officers violated their duties and public trust when they allegedly committed theft by deception. The April 2023 scandal included an agreement that three captains and one lieutenant would accept resignation on May 1 of that year without prosecution. Three other officers remained on the police force.
At the time, Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora, Police Director Steve Wilson, and PBA brass employed a theme that Platkin’s office identified no reason for prosecution and kicked the case back to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office which allowed city officials to determine resolution. Four officers walked with pensions intact.
According to investigators, Nazario was employed as a technical assistant for the Department of Children and Families IT Division from January 2021 through October 2023. She allegedly received over $800 from one individual with a case being handled by the Division of Child Protection & Permanency in exchange for confidential information.
Amazingly, city officials have never released the names of officers involved in the conspiracy nor stated amounts of monies involved while Platkin refused action.
