NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — April has arrived, and the flowers are in bloom. In New Orleans, that means spring festivals…and this weekend brings a street fest that highlights beautiful artwork, a celebration of all things horror, and even a festival around family, culture, and genealogy: here are Where
Y’at’s picks!
First, fans of horror movies, don't miss the Overlook Film Festival that starts Thursday, April 3. It features an expanded lineup at the Prytania Theatre Uptown, Canal Place, and other locales. There’ll also be special events including a 10th anniversary Shudder party and panel discussions.
Like your opera with a touch of Cajun music? Immerse yourself in the Wild West with the operatic comedy Elixir of Love Friday night, April 4 at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. After the performance, join the afterparty with a concert by Amanda Shaw. There’ll also be a Sunday matinee of the opera.
On Saturday afternoon, April 5 don't miss GenFest, a comprehensive genealogy festival with over 30 organizations focused on history and culture. The event at Dillard University features presentations from local researchers. Whether you're a seasoned genealogist or starting to explore your family history, this event is for you.
Finally, on Saturday evening, April 5, the Arts District New Orleans presents Jammin' on Julia, a unique art walk and party with live music. This free event transforms the Arts District into a cultural hub featuring world-class exhibitions and delicious cuisine from local food trucks.
