UNL Police Make Arrest in Sunday Assault, Hate Crime Case

Police Lights (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Apr. 3)–Investigators with UNL Police on Thursday said an arrest was made related to an assault, which happened early Sunday morning in the area of 16th and “W” Street on UNL’s City Campus.

Department has made an arrest in connection to the assault which occurred on campus in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 30, 2025.
The suspect is a 21-year-old male and a resident of Norfolk, Nebraska.

The suspect, a 21-year-old male and a resident of Norfolk, apparently made derogatory comments about the LGBTQ community, and then assaulted one person. UNL Police say the suspect is not affiliated with the university. He’s been identified by KFOR’s media partner, 10/11 News, as Cale Wacker.
He was arrested this morning on a charge of third-degree assault with a hate crime enhancement, making this a class IV felony under Nebraska State Law. ...read more read less
