HILLSBORO, Ind. — An interstate police chase came to an end after a driver fleeing from deputies allegedly pulled out a gun and shot himself.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, the incident began at 12:32 p.m. on Interstate 74 when a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a F
ord Explorer that was traveling westbound. The deputy was attempting to pull the driver over for failing to signal but the Explorer failed to stop.

The sheriff's department said the driver of the Explorer kept driving west at a normal rate of speed for several miles, ignoring the flashing lights of the deputy's vehicle. But then, the Explorer accelerated to approximately 100 miles per hour and tried to flee from the deputy.
Near the 22-mile marker, roughly 10 miles from where the traffic stop was first attempted, the Explorer slowed dramatically and exited the roadway. The vehicle continued off the road and up an embankment until it struck a guardrail and came to a stop.

Police said three people exited the vehicle — two women and one man. The man told police that the driver of the Explorer had shot himself.
Deputies, along with Crawfordsville police, ended up approaching the Ford Explorer and confirmed a deceased man was in the driver's seat. He appeared to have a gunshot wound.
One of the women was transported to a hospital after complaining of a heart condition. The other woman and the man were interviewed and released from the scene. No arrests were made.
At this time, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department is unsure why the driver of the Explorer fled from the deputy and why he shot himself.
The identity of the deceased has not been released. ...read more read less
