DANVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A Danville man died late Wednesday night after driving his truck over and later contacting live power lines that fell during severe storms crossing through the area. The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Nathan Merritt, 27, of Danville. D eputies were called to the area of County Road 75 West, north of C.R. 200 South in Danville around 9:30 p.m. to investigate a possible crash with injuries. When they arrived, they found several downed power lines blocking the roads. They also found a blue 2007 Dodge pickup truck on fire off the roadway. Merritt was found lying unresponsive next to the pickup truck. Power company employees arrived to cut off the lines. Then, first responders approached Merritt, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe Merritt was driving north on C.R. 75 W. when he hit downed power lines in the road and eventually came to a stop. Sometime after, Merritt got out of the pickup and came into contact with live line, resulting in his death. Merritt was honored on social media by members of Warrior Pro Wrestling, an independent wrestling group based out of Danville. Merritt worked as WPW’s sound and production director. WPW says they will miss many things about Merritt. “Our WPW family will miss his smile, excitement, and dedication to not just our show but to independent wrestling across the state. Prayers are with his son Tatum and the entire Merritt family.” “Nathan was a huge part of the Indiana independent wrestling community and we are all rallying around his family right now,” a spokesperson shared with News 8. The sheriff’s office says they are still investigating the incident. It was unclear how long the roadway was blocked or if the lines have been repaired.
