'Highly intoxicated' man taken into custody after De Pere standoff near Patriot Park

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - An alleged 'highly intoxicated' man was taken into custody on Thursday morning after a brief standoff near Patriot Park in De Pere after he was reportedly threatening a woman with a gun.
According to the De Pere Police Department, officers were called to the 1700 block of 7
6 Place in De Pere around 8:05 a.m. on April 3. Officers say the response was due to a report of an intoxicated man allegedly holding a woman against her will and threatening to harm her with a firearm.
The woman was able to get out of the house on her own, safely. She told responding officers that the man was still armed inside the home.

Due to reports of the man being armed, the Brown County SWAT Team armored Bearcat vehicle and a K9 Unit were called to the scene, and a shelter-in-place was sent out to nearby residents and schools.
Members of the De Pere Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were able to make contact with the man via phone and tried to convince him to leave the home peacefully, although he initially refused.
After a standoff, the man came out of the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

The Crisis Negotiation Team officers performed exceptionally during this situation, greatly contributing to a positive outcome.
