United Rentals workers go on strike, ask for better pay and benefits

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — United Rentals workers in Fort Wayne have been on strike since the beginning of April claiming unfair labor practices.
International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union Number 103 is fighting for nine workers to unionize. They say United Rentals is familiar with
working with unions. According to the group, there are currently four unfair labor practices on file.
"These guys, they deserve a fair contract. We've been in negotiations with United Rentals with this group of nine guys for over a year now," said Craig Tyler, Business Representative of Local 103. "The contract is really simplified, it shouldn't take a year to ratify a contract this small or a group this small so we feel like they have really kicked the ball and we want to get this deal done."
United Rentals, headquartered out of Stamford, Connecticut, is an equipment rental company with locations across the globe. Three other Indiana United Rentals locations are on strike.
More than 330 contractors partner with the union in the Fort Wayne area. "We want to reach out with them and let them know that United Rentals is friendly, they're a partner, let's grow together, let's build revenue but let's take care of our men at the same time," said Local 103 Organizer Joey Southgate.
