(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Fountain Creek Watershed District is having a rain barrel sale, and Alli Schuch, Executive Director, joined FOX21 Morning News on Thursday, April 3, to talk about how rain barrels can help promote water conservation and sustainable water management practices.
Rain barre
ls connect to gutters and capture roof runoff, which can later be used to water plants and grasses. "This is for your perennial plants, your grasses," said Schuch. "A lot of times we don't recommend vegetables just because we don't know what's on your roof."
Schuch said enhancing the health of our watershed is everyone's responsibility. "It's something we all need to do, it's not just my job to manage the watershed," Schuch said. "This is a really easy way that we can all do our part."
Rain barrels will be sold online through Sunday, April 6, 2025, and can be picked up April 18 or 19 in Colorado Springs. Each barrel costs $97, and two can be placed on a property.
"Water in the west is a huge issue, we have a growing population here," said Schuch. "A lot of people want to move here and we only have so much water, so it's up to us to think about ways we can reduce that water usage." ...read more read less
