BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) —“Found it on Facebook, had it shipped out here from Washington D.C., didn't really know what we were going to get, but it arrived” Imdieke says.
Sometimes, all it takes is an idea, exactly what Shelby Imdieke and her daughter, Claire pursued.Their family owns, manages
and operates a 1984 AM general mail truck. They will embark on their second season with the truck this summer. Shelby hopes her daughter can continue working on in the future.
“We always thought it would be fun to do in the summertime, something fun for Claire to do and maybe take over someday,” Imdieke says.
With one season already under their belt, Shelby and her daughter are excited to bring their treat to you.“No matter where we go, kids love ice cream, no matter what neighborhood we went into, we were always selling,” Imdieke says.But... the star of the business is Olive, the golden retriever.
“We happen to have an olive tree in our house. One night we just thought, how about Olive and so it's Olive the dog become Olive and we just thought it be cute to name it after our dog,” Imdieke says.
“It's fun, sometimes me and my mom like to do events like people's birthday parties or something. It's fun, I like to join in when my mom is selling ice cream,” Claire Imdieke says.Shelby says the truck opens up the doors to new opportunities for Claire.“It teaches her social skills, business skills, learns how to count change, learns how to count money, interact with people and she gets a lot more tips than I do,” Imdieke says. Somewhere where we will bring happiness or joy, wherever we go, that's kind of the whole point of this. That was my goal with it,” Imdieke says.Shelby also says there will be dog gelato coming soon and a bigger focus on giving back to the community. ...read more read less
