Save South County Hospital, hospital parent company to hold community forum
Apr 03, 2025
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The group Save South County Hospital will hold a community meeting to discuss ongoing concerns about the hospital’s management Thursday.
A doctor with the grassroots coalition said Thursday’s meeting will bring more advocates forward to “sign up for the larger fi
ght for change.”
The meeting comes right after South County Hospital filed a lawsuit against the group.
The hospital’s lawyers claim the Save South County Hospital targeted the hospital’s donor group, and the lawsuit intends to “safeguard donor confidentiality and ensure that philanthropic contributions continue.”
Save South County Hospital said the lawsuit was to “cover up the fallout of mismanagement.”
The parent organization of South County Hospital, called South County Healthcare System Endowment will be a part of Thursday’s meeting with Save South County Hospital.
The endowment can elect and remove trustees and make changes to bylaws made by the current board.
The endowment plans to elect nine trustees Thursday night.
This is just the latest development in a long-term battle.
Back in June, most of the hospital’s oncology staff resigned, leaving cancer patients to find care elsewhere.
In September, hospital employees voted “no confidence” in management, a sign of distrust from those on the front lines.
By January, staff formally called for the CEO to resign.
The board of South County Hospital responded to the claims saying in part:
We are saddened that South County Health’s exceptional quality of care continues to be misrepresented in our community.
Tonight’s meeting takes place at South Kingstown High School at 6 p.m.
The public is invited, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and seating for up to 300 people on a first-come, first-serve basis.
