Quieter for cleanup; storm and flood threat return
Apr 03, 2025
After a very active Wednesday, when severe storms ripped through central Indiana, things have quieted down. There will be a good opportunity for cleanup, much of which will need to take place today. The National Weather Service will be out today surveying several areas in central Indiana for potenti
al tornado damage and is likely to confirm multiple tornadoes, along with their ratings.
Over 280 storm reports came in from yesterday’s storms across multiple states, and that number is still growing. You can find extensive coverage of last night’s storm progression here.
A few sprinkles remain across central Indiana on Thursday morning, but the main storm threat passed near midnight earlier this morning. The storms have now pushed well to our south and east, where they continue to trigger additional severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings from Tennessee to West Virginia. The severe weather threat today is focused south of us, with the bullseye for severe storms centered over parts of Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas—areas that already saw numerous severe storms yesterday.
We’ll start the day with some sunshine, but clouds will increase by the afternoon. Spotty showers are expected to develop by mid to late afternoon, with scattered showers and storms returning this evening. However, we’re not expecting these to be severe.
There is another severe weather threat for Friday, but it doesn’t appear to be nearly as intense as Wednesday’s storms. A few spotty showers will start the day, with scattered rain returning in the afternoon. Very heavy rainfall is expected to arrive in the late evening, along with a potential for strong storms.
Flooding will be a major concern over the next few days, with periods of heavy rainfall between now and the weekend. Additional rainfall amounts of 3–7” are possible, on top of the 2”+ of rain some areas saw from yesterday’s storms. Stay weather aware and check back with us for frequent updates.
