CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The attack on an Ardrey Kell High School student was not a hate crime, an FBI Task Force investigation concluded.
The alleged incident occurred on March 7, where the female victim's family claims a male football player verbally assaulted the student before
physically attacking her. The female student was being supported by the Islamic Center of Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police was part of the task force and reported Wednesday that there is no evidence to support a criminal charge under N.C. General Statute 14-3 (Punishment enhancements for crimes committed with ethnic animosity) or NCGS 14-401-14 (Ethnic Intimidation).
“CMPD has confirmed that there is currently no active investigation by the FBI into this matter as there is no evidence to support that the crime occurred due to the victim’s religion, race or ethnicity,” the department said.
The FBI took over the investigation a week after the incident was reported at the Ballantyne-area school. At the time, the victim’s family expressed frustration with CMPD’s initial response.
However, on March 27, the family of the male student called the allegations a mischaracterization of the situation, stating that race, religion or culture were not factors and that no derogatory terms were used. They claimed he acted in self-defense after “incessant bullying.”
Both students were suspended for the incident. ...read more read less
