South Fulton City Leaders, Residents Join Councilmember Gumbs to Celebrate Local Road Improvements
Apr 03, 2025
Residents, city officials, and others gathered Tuesday, April 1, 2025, to commemorate the completion of the Cochran Road over Deep Creek Road Improvements Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7955 Cochran Road, SW. The project spans parts of District 2, represented by Councilmember Carmalitha G
umbs, and District 4, represented by Councilmember Jaceey Sebastian.
The project involved replacing the existing bridge carrying Cochran Road over Deep Creek with a new structure designed to enhance safety and accommodate increased traffic flow. Initiated as part of the city’s Capital Improvement Program, the project addresses critical infrastructure needs in the area and enhances connectivity for residents and commuters alike.
“Every time we cut a ribbon, it means progress—not for city leaders, but for all our citizens,” said Councilmember Carmalitha Gumbs. “This project is a testament to our commitment to improving infrastructure that directly impacts our residents’ daily lives.”
Councilmember Helen Zenobia Willis of District 3 highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the project’s success, stating, “Progress doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time. I’m just happy that working together we are moving the city forward.”
The ceremony was attended by city officials and livestreamed for community members via the City of South Fulton’s official Facebook page. Police coordinated secure parking along the temporarily closed roadway to ensure the event proceeded safely and efficiently.
“The completion of the Cochran Road over Deep Creek Road Improvements Project underscores South Fulton’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure, promoting safety, and supporting the community’s growth and development,” Gumbs said.
Another ribbon cutting is scheduled for April 17 to celebrate the completion of the long-awaited Enon Road Sidewalks project.
