FORECAST: Cloudy and warm, storms possible on Thursday
Apr 02, 2025
Cloudy skies have been common all day long, but we haven't dealt with much else and it will stay that way heading into the night. A combination of breezy southeast winds and an approaching warm front to the west locked all the clouds in place, keeping most of us in the 50s and 60s temperature-wise.
A cluster of rain and storms passed by north of us, but rain chances look to stay low tonight. The big story will be temperatures holding steady and rising some into Thursday morning. Most of us will wake up to the 60s with the warm front lifting through.
A few showers will become possible after the warm front has passed and we wait for the arrival of a strong cold front tomorrow. Most of any showers that develop early on will linger across the mountains and near the PA-MD line. Despite overcast skies, southerly winds ahead of the front will push us well into the 80s. In this warm and moist environment, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and sweep through during the afternoon and evening.
As it stands now, the Storm Prediction Center has expanded the Level 2/5 Risk for severe storms into the heart of the DMV. This means we'll have to be on guard, as a few storms could bring gusty winds and small hail if they gain enough strength. That's a big if though, as it doesn't appear very likely with the current trends. Either way, some pockets of steadier rain and storms will come through with the front before it sags south of us into Friday.
With that front still nearby, rain chances will stay in the forecast through the weekend. Each day won't be a total washout, but some will be soggier than others. Scattered showers will be likely through the day on Friday with slightly cooler temperatures in the 60s and 70s. After isolated showers in the morning, Saturday is looking much drier throughout the day. Sunday will also start dry, but then the front will bounce back north and be followed by a strong cold front that will bring widespread rain and scattered storms to end the weekend. It will turn breezy and colder as conditions clear out early next week. Sunnier skies are on tap through next Wednesday, but highs will sturggle to get back into the 50s each day.
Have a great rest of your Thursday night!
