KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Kings County Deputy Sheriff's Office says deputies were involved in a pursuit Tuesday evening onto the Santa Rosa Rancheria.
Officials say a deputy was on patrol near Jersey Avenue and Alkali Drive around 8:20 p.m. when they noticed a vehicle with expired re
gistration. The deputy conducted a traffic stop, but the driver did not yield, resulting in a pursuit.
According to deputies, the vehicle continued through the guard shack onto the Santa Rosa Rancheria, hitting a stop sign in the process.
The driver, according to deputies, continued to flee within the Rancheria, reaching speeds of 60 mph in designated 15 mph zones. The vehicle was eventually stopped in a dirt berm.
After the vehicle was immobilized, the man who was driving and a female passenger in the back seat fled on foot into a wooded area known as the Slough. A man who was a passenger in the front seat stayed in the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.
The Kings County Air Support Unit was dispatched for an aerial search. Meanwhile, deputies on the ground, assisted by Sheriff’s Office K-9 Blue, began a ground search.
