SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A public art installation in San Francisco’s Civic Center made up of 1,271 LED lights and spanning more than an acre of space above Fulton Plaza is set to make its debut on Saturday night.
The art installation, named Spectra, “will pulse and shimmer in an audio-reactive
display of color and light,” nonprofit Illuminate and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department said in a news release. “Arranged in a dynamic waveform that mimics both light and sound spectrums, SPECTRA ripples across the sky.”

Oakland-based artist Joshua Hubert conceptualized the dazzling display, which has been in the works since late 2023, officials said.
“SPECTRA is intended to be collaborative and open-source,” Hubert said in a statement. “It is a canvas for creativity that’s meant to grow and change. Public art belongs to everyone—it’s a living, breathing entity, and SPECTRA is a reflection of the energy we all bring to it. It's more than just light and sound, it reflects the vibrant and diverse spectrum of individuals who shape this city and call it home.”
