18yearold sentenced to 18 years in prison for shooting death of Topeka teen

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A man arrested in connection to the death of a Topeka teenager in 2023 was sentenced this week to nearly 19 years in prison.
27 News checked Shawnee County court records on April 2 which show that Taylen J. Leclere, 18, was sentenced to 226 months or just under 19 years in prison
in connection to the killing of 17-year-old Victor N. Carlton in 2023. Leclere pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of murder in the 2nd degree and aggravated robbery. He was one of three teens arrested in connection to Carlton's death which marked the 27th homicide of the year.

Topeka police identify weekend crash victim
Police were called around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2023 to the 2000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on reports of a shooting. Topeka police found one individual, later identified as Carlton, who had a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. Medical personnel declared Carlton to be dead at the scene.
Leclere was initially charged with murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree and aggravated robbery. However, the charge of murder in the first degree was later dismissed.
A second individual involved in this case, Joshua M. Mitchiner, was recently found guilty during a jury trial. He was found guilty of multiple charges including murder in the first degree, multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a child and aggravated robbery.
