RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Bon Secours and Cigna have officially announced that both healthcare organizations have reached an agreement to secure in-network access for patients. This comes after Bon Secours and Cigna failed to reach an agreement by the initial agreement date of March 31. If a deal ha d not been reached between the two, Bon Secours facilities across Virginia would have had to leave Cigna's network which would affect up to 30,000 customers statewide, according to a previous report by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Leaving the network would result in patients paying a higher cost. The deadline for the deal was then extended 24 more hours to April 1, with Bon Secours announcing a new multiyear commercial insurance agreement with Cigna. “We believe that access to quality health care services is vital for our community members. After several months of negotiations, we are pleased to have reached a new agreement that protects our patients’ access to affordable, compassionate care close to home,” said C. Bart Rountree, MD, executive medical director.
