Keeneland reschedules opening races of the Spring Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Keeneland’s racing cards for the first two days of the Spring Meet are rescheduled due to inclement weather expected during a four day severe weather event.
Races on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 will now be run the following week.
That includes the $750,
000 Central Bank Ashland (G1) and the $1.25 million Toyota Blue Grass (G1) which will be run on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
Free general admission will be given to all guests for both Monday and Tuesday with no purchase required.
As for Sunday’s race card, Keeneland says that they are “closely monitoring track conditions and plans,” but as of right now it will serve as opening day of the meet.
“The safety of our equine and human participants, as well as of our fans, is at the core of every decision we make at Keeneland,” said Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin. “While we have navigated challenging weather in the past, the conditions being forecast for the region are unprecedented for Keeneland. Ultimately, ensuring the safety of everyone involved is our top priority.”
Other changes for the opening weekend include the following.
The Hill is closed for the opening weekend and will be back open on Friday, April 11
Sunrise Trackside is canceled for opening Saturday and will return on Saturday, April 12.
Kids Club Family Day will go on as planned on Sunday, April 6, with slightly modified activities.
Guests who purchased private tailgate experiences or Race Day Social tickets will be contacted by RevelXP regarding their reservations. Race Day Social tickets will be automatically refunded.
