KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In an effort to stop illegal street racing and sideshows in Kanas City, Mayor Quinton Lucas and the city are enforcing new tow fees.
The fees are designed to curb reckless driving and protect the public on Kansas City streets. The mayor's release says that vehicles involved in
street racing or sideshows will be charged per tow $500 for the first offense, $750 for the second offense and $1,000 for the third or subsequent offense.

“Street racing and sideshows are not just a nuisance—they’re a threat to life and safety,” said Mayor Lucas.
“These new fees send a clear message: Kansas City streets are not the place for stunts, high-speed exhibitions, or reckless behavior.”
According to KCPD, 13 involved vehicles have been towed since September 2024. They also say that under the new ordinance, enforcement operations will "intensify" in the coming weeks.
The release also says that the ordinance not only allows KCPD to enforce against racers and participants but also spectators within 200 feet of races or sideshows. ...read more read less
