yone to be ready.
Whether you’re a seasoned weather watcher or new to storm season, being prepared is key to staying safe and minimizing the impacts of severe storms.

Find out how your community notifies residents about severe weather
Some areas have outdoor sirens, while others rely on media reports or smartphone alerts. Knowing how to get notifications is a big part of staying safe.
Have a safe space and a plan in place
It’s important to know what to do if a storm strikes. Pick somewhere in your house to, ideally, have a family meeting spot and make sure everyone knows what to do when severe weather is headed your way. You can find more planning tips here.
Preparation goes beyond just having a plan—it’s important to practice it. Run through a drill with your family so everyone knows where to go and what to do if severe weather hits.
And don’t forget your pets—if time allows.
Before the storm hits, make sure your property is ready
Trim any trees or branches that could pose a risk, and if you have time, secure loose items outside, close windows, and move valuable belongings inside or under sturdy shelter.
It’s not just about you—check in on your neighbors, especially those who may need extra help preparing for the storm. If able, also consider taking CPR training so you’re ready to assist anyone who may get injured.
