Higher tariff rates could affect businesses, organizations in northeast Indiana

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The baseline tariff President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday is expected to affect businesses and organizations around northeast Indiana.
WANE 15 spoke with Jenna Anderson, director of programs for the Northeast Indiana Early Childhood Coalition. She said inflation
and state budget cuts are already tough on childcare programs, adding this will send them to the brink.

"We really can't handle anymore," said Anderson. "I think what we are going to see is costs continue to rise across the board. Whether it's for learning materials or games or food, or playground equipment. If they are continuing to rise, this could be the downfall of childcare."

WANE 15 also reached out to a local dealership to see if there is an influx in car buyers with the potential of higher prices. Jeff O'Daniel, the General Manager at O'Daniel Ford sent WANE 15 the following statement:
We haven’t seen a big influx of buyers trying to buy before the tariff announcement today. I think the consumer has been waiting to see what happens with not only the tariffs but, more importantly the economy before some make purchase decisions. The manufacturers will be processing all the new tariffs in the coming days or weeks before making any decisions on any price actions. The vehicles on dealer lots should not be affected. The tariffs, from what I know, are on a country-by-country basis, with Canada and Mexico being the lowest. So, depending on where cars are built could determine the potential for price increases on specific brands. The tariff announcement could pull some buyers into the market short term to avoid potential price increases as things unfold. April would be a good time to buy if considering a new or used vehicle. Used car prices will go up if new car prices are increased. Ford just announced tonight Ford employee pricing on top of rebates for everyone on most models! As we have learned, things can change regarding tariff policies, so everyone is watching daily as the markets digest the news and negotiations.
