TRENTON — A city woman is dead and another is arrested after an altercation was followed by what police say was an intentional hit-and-run.
Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey announced the arrest of Asia Brown, 47, of Trenton.
Brown is facing charges of first-degree murder and second-degr
ee leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.
Trenton Police responded to a call at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday on the 1400 block of West State Street where callers reported a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
Officers found Caldner Bell, 67, of Trenton, injured at the scene and had her transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased soon after arrival.
The prosecutor’s office said there was an altercation between Brown and Bell in front of Bell’s residence on West State Street. Brown is accused of then driving her Lexus SUV over the curb, intentionally hitting Bell.
Investigators said Brown then drove the SUV over a lawn, striking a house. Brown then fled the scene, heading down West State st. toward Newell Ave.
Soon after, police at a nearby construction scene saw a Lexus SUV drive into a closed construction zone where two officers were stationed.
Those officers saw that the SUV was missing its front bumper and had a ruptured tire on the driver’s side.
Police approached the vehicle near the intersection of Montgomery and East State Streets and were able to detain the driver, later identified as Asia Brown, without incident.
The Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation was conducted by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, the county’s Serious Collision Response Team, and the Trenton Police Department.
