The city says one of the most vital ways someone can help is through recycling. To further inform locals on how to properly recycle, the city has launched the "Recycle Right" campaign. The initiative aims to remind locals of some common items that often aren't disposed of correctly, including pizza boxes, disposable coffee cups, and plastic bags. You can find the full list below:
“Recycling correctly is one of the easiest ways residents can help reduce waste and protect our environment,” said Solid Waste Management Department Director Billy Gallegos in a news release. “We can make a big difference in the health and beauty of our community when we all make the little decisions to dispose of our waste properly.”
On Saturday, April 12, locals are invited to the "One Albuquerque Cleanup Day" where the community will come together to clean up litter. Attendees will get free cleanup supplies. Registered groups will have their collected litter picked up by the city after the event. To participate, either sign up through your neighborhood association, or register with a group of people.
The next day, Balloon Fiesta Park is hosting its second annual Earth Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a myriad of workshops throughout the day on topics including solar power, plant-based eating, wildfire home protection, and more. Food and kid-friendly activities will be available.
On Monday, April 22, the city is holding a free e-waste drop-off at Eagle Rock Convenience Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Locals are encouraged to bring their old electronics, such as computers, televisions, printers, or cell phones. More information is available on the city website.
