JEMEZ SPRINGS (KRQE) – A popular geological location in New Mexico will reopen in May. The U.S. Forest Service said the Gilman Tunnels, located in the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest, are still undergoing a rock stabilization project that originally started in October. A similar project took place in the area in 2017. The area will remain closed to all traffic, including motorized, non-motorized, and foot, until May 2. Other areas reopening The Santa Fe National Forest Jemez Ranger District also announced the reopening of other roads and recreation sites. A list of the reopens can be found below: March 31: Forest Road 10 Corridor opens April 11: All other District roads open, including Forest Road 376 from New Mexico State Road 126 to the Gilman Tunnels. May 2: Gilman Tunnels open. July 1: Forest Road 376 from its junction with NM State Road 126 north to its terminus at the San Antonio Hot Springs Trailhead opens. The area will be closed to motorized traffic from March 3, 2025, through July 1, 2025.
