Congress of the Birds making strides in establishing bird sanctuary
Apr 02, 2025
CHEPACHET, R.I. (WLNE) — A unique avian sanctuary is now well underway thanks to multiple generous donations.
Here’s what’s been happening at Congress of the Birds.
We first told you about Congress of the Birds in October of 2024, when much of their newly acquired sanctuary space was just w
ide open land.
Founder and executive director Sheida Soleimani has been hard at work, and eagle-eyed on their goals.
Several enclosures to house and rehabilitate birds found injured or orphaned from across the Ocean State have been constructed at the site.
“We are the only clinic in the state that focuses specifically on wild birds,” said Soleimani.
“And we’re trained to take care of every single one of those birds.”
Since October, they’ve impressively raised nearly $35,000 through their GoFundMe to support their efforts, but were recently still a feather shy of their overall $50,000 goal.
“It’s going to be almost $10,000 to feed all of our raptors this year,” said Soleimani.
They are also one of the more than 600 non-profits currently being supported by 401 Gives, with 137 donors raising more than $10,000 in less than 24 hours to push them over the goal mark.
