MÄS and two more Oregon chefs advanced in the Best Chef: Northwest category. That’s not all the Northwest hype, though. | MÄS
Three chefs, a bar, a bakery, and even a restaurant all made it to the final round The James Beard Award finalists were announced on Wednesday, A
pril 2 in Los Angeles. For the Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific award, three Oregonians stayed in the running. Joshua Dorcak of MÄS in Ashland, Ryan Roadhouse of Nodoguro in Portland, and Timothy Wastell of Antica Terra in Amity advanced. Portland favorites in Le Pigeon’s Gabriel Rucker and Lovely’s Fifty Fifty’s Sarah Minnick did not go on in the Outstanding Chef category this year, no west coast representation making it to the final round.
A not-so-surprising amount of Oregon talent made it from the semifinalists to the finalists in other categories, though. Kyurim “Q” Lee and Jin Caldwell’s Jinju Patisserie moved on to the next round in the Outstanding Bakery category. Scotch Lodge, the SE Ninth Avenue whiskey destination, advanced in the Outstanding Bar category, too. Mount Tabor restaurant Coquine — Katy Millard’s volcano-topping outfit — continues to hold it down, as it’s still up for the Outstanding Restaurant award.
No matter the outcome, last year was maybe the biggest year for Oregon in the awards’ history. Portland in 2024 saw Thai tasting menu spot Langbaan, from Akkapong “Earl” Ninsom, take home the Outstanding Restaurant, arguably the Best Picture for the Beards. Gregory Gourdet of Kann also ran it back after his 2023 Best New Restaurant win with another win in the Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific category.
