"My grandson he had called and said the lights were off, and that's why I came out to get him to take him home because the storm is getting ready to travel," said Franklin Sorrell, Memphis Grandparent.
MLGW says the cause of the power outage is still being investigated and that they do not have an estimated restoration time yet.
Crews for the company also responded to downed powerlines in the area of South Cleveland and Lamar Avenue.

Even though Memphis and the Mid-South brace for a severe weather threat moving into the area Wednesday evening and possibly sticking around throughout the weekend, MLGW says it's prepared for a multi-day, unstable weather pattern.
The utility saying damaging winds, tornadoes, and catastrophic flooding are possible.
President and CEO Doug McGowen says, "We are hoping for the best but planning for the worst." The company says it's in close contact with the National Weather Service and local emergency agencies and that crews have been placed on standby to help respond in the event there's damage.

MGLW says it prioritizes where crews will be sent to restore power such hospitals, public safety hazards where power lines and poles are down, areas with large numbers of customers without power and scattered, smaller outages.
All of this is happening as Memphians are hoping their lights will stay on.
"Our lights and everything are still on. Everything is still on, yeah. it's a blessing though because I don't know when I get back home what's going to happen," Sorrell said.
Memphis Light, Gas and Water says if you have an outage, you can report it on the MLGW app or by calling 544-6500.
And if stormy weather knocks down a power line, it's recommended you stay away from it and call MLGW at 528-4465. ...read more read less
