MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two years ago, a deadly tornado hit Tipton County. Now, the community is at a high risk for more severe storms.
The Tipton County School District closed an hour early on Wednesday to get ahead of the incoming weather.

Tipton County’s EMA director, Baker McCool, says first responders and other emergency crews have been planning for the weather since Monday.
“We just finished a weather call with the National Weather Service in Memphis, and it’s a 5/5. So, they’re very confident in the forecast. They say there will be a possibility of strong tornadoes, so that’s a large concern," said McCool.
Monday marked two years since a tornado hit Tipton County. It was responsible for one death and hundreds of damaged homes and businesses.
McCool says there has been progress since then, but some damage remains.
“If you continue on 51, northbound from this location we’re in now, you’ll still see some scarred lands, some scarred homes. You’ll see the damage that’s still there," McCool said.
He says flooding is also a concern with this week’s weather. If the heavy rainfall produces floodwaters, Tipton County leaders are ready to assist.
“And we’re prepared with swift water teams, we have equipment here at the EMA that we can deploy. We also have Public Works, local law enforcement, everybody has a game plan and we’re set to go," said McCool.
McCool says residents should also make sure they have a weather plan and that their phones are charged.
