During this project, city officials say there will be periods of time in which the ozone system will be offline leaving chlorine to be used as the primary method to meet the water disinfection regulations.
Local residents can expect to notice an increased smell or taste of chlorine in their water, however, officials ensure that the level of residual chlorine in the water will still be safe to drink.
The first shutdown of the ozone system is scheduled to start on Monday, April 7, and it will last for a few weeks. As construction for the project continues the ozone system could be offline multiple times.
In order to reduce the scent and taste of the chlorine in the water, residents can take the following actions:
Utilize a filter such as an activated carbon filter to remove residual chlorine.
Pour water into a glass or pitcher and wait 15 - 20 minutes to evaporate chlorine.
Boil water for 15 minutes to evaporate chlorine.
