UPDATE (4/2/25): LANCASTER, SC – A judge denied bond Wednesday for two suspects involved in a shooting inside the Walmart in Lancaster on Tuesday. The suspects are 18-year-old Lareakus Cunningham, Jr., and 19-year-old Na’Rickio Mickle. Both are charged with attempted murder, possession of a we apon during the commission of a violent crime, and breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature. A third suspect is still in the hospital being treated for injuries from the shooting. He will be arrested once he’s released. Police have warrants out for the arrests of a fourth and fifth suspect, and a juvenile petition for the arrest of a sixth person, who is under age. UPDATE (4/1/25): LANCASTER, SC – An argument between a group of men inside Walmart on Highway 9 Bypass West escalated to multiple people firing shots shutting down the store Tuesday afternoon. “You don’t expect someone to get shot where you normally go,” Charles Squatrito Lancaster resident said. Authorities say several people called 911 after hearing gunfire in the automotive area of the store around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Officers arrived within minutes. “Anytime you get inside a store and there’s people shooting that’s pretty dangerous in my eyes,” Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said. “Certainly, the folks doing regular business didn’t want to be a part of anything like that.” Police say two men were shot in the automotive area of the retail store. They were rushed to the hospital and after treatment they were detained by police. At last check, at least three men are in custody but authorities say more arrests could be on the way. “It appears that the subjects were familiar with each other it doesn’t seem to be random and an altercation occurred between that group of folks,” Lancaster Police Chief Don Roper said. Lancaster Police, the Sheriff’s office, SC Highway Patrol and more spent several hours combing the scene for evidence and interviewing witnesses. “This kind of investigation takes a lot of resources,” Chief Roper said. “We’re very fortunate that we have a relationship already established and we have other resources that have reached out to the sheriff and myself offering help and we’re taking advantage of all the resources.” South Carolina law allows adults to carry a gun openly or concealed. Some people say incidents like this are why they stay strapped. “That’s why I carry a gun to protect myself and make sure if there’s anybody bad around I can defend myself,” Squatrito said. Since the shooting happened in the middle of the day with customers inside, police say there are multiple witnesses. ORIGINAL STORY: LANCASTER, SC – At least two people are hurt following a shooting Tuesday afternoon inside the Walmart in Lancaster. Lancaster Police Chief Don Roper says the shooting happened inside the automotive section of the store located on Highway 9 Bypass West. He says law enforcement has swept the building and it is secure. A witness inside the store at the time tells WCCB Charlotte she heard around six or seven shots ring out around 2pm. Chief Roper says it appears the shooting happened during a fight between several people.
