LAKIN, Kan. (KSNW) — A grass fire in southwest Kansas temporarily closed U.S. Highway 50 Tuesday afternoon.
The Kansas Department of Transportation said smoke from a fire three and a half miles west of Lakin was reducing visibility. Around 4 p.m., KDOT closed U.S. 50 from the Hamilton and Kearn
y county line to Kansas Highway 25, five miles west of Lakin.

The highway was reopened by 5 p.m.
Tuesday afternoon, Governor Laura Kelly declared a state of disaster emergency due to the risk of wildfires in western Kansas.
