Most of us regret the reality of Sundance’s decision to leave Park City and are gravely concerned about what that cost will be to the city and its residents. Hotels, restaurants, shops and other businesses will feel the loss. Residents will feel it via increased taxes. Somehow, that revenue
must be replaced in a positive way. The Kimball Art Center could be our answer. Park City is a former mining town and, while residents take pride in it, it is no longer an attraction for visitors. Let’s change Park City to an avant-garde art and culture center. Let’s build a world-class property for the Kimball. Done right, it will attract artists and visitors from all over the world, and instead of 10 roaring days of crowds in January, we will have 12 months of steady, increased business and highly enjoyable art. It will be easier for businesses to hire staff and provide service to residents on a year-round basis, including spring and fall. Traffic and all the things that have proved difficult for residents during the festival will be abated. Even the ski areas will benefit.Park City can and must replace its image as Sundance’s home and it could instead become famous for its artistic attractions. While respecting the town’s history, let’s create a future. The Kimball Art Center has proven itself locally and regionally. Now let’s let them take Park City further. And we’ll still be able to see the Sundance offerings online.Dick GaryPark MeadowsThe post Go big with Kimball appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
