NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Winds are already gusting to around 30 on the south shore Wednesday morning and will likely increase through the day. Once we see breaks in the clouds and the sun come out we will see stronger wind. Expect mid to upper 80s for highs Wednesday through Saturday. Overnight lows w ill only drop into the 70s. The big story through the next few days will be the persistent onshore flow. South to southeast winds on Wednesday will be in the 20s and gusting into the upper 30s to low 40s at times. Thursday will be slightly lower but still blustery. This flow will continue through the start of the weekend which will cause water to be pushed into the area. A coastal flood warning and watch is already in effect for areas along the coast and the north and western side of the lakes. We could see levels 3-4 feet higher than normal and possibly more. Areas outside the levee system will likely see some flooding. In terms of rain, we will stay dry through Saturday. Right now it looks like the next front moves in on Sunday with another widespread batch of rain and storms. It's still too early to determine if severe weather will be an issue, but locally heavy rain could be.
