Buzz Williams joins University of Maryland as men's basketball head coach

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) -- Former Texas A&M head coach Brent Langdon "Buzz" Williams is now taking on the Terps at the University of Maryland (UMD).
The university announced Williams as the new head coach of UMD men's basketball on Tuesday, just days after former head coach Kevin Will
ard was hired at Villanova.
"It is an honor and privilege to be named the head coach of the University of Maryland men's basketball team," he said in a news release. "I want to thank President Pines and Colleen Sorem for this opportunity to lead one of the most prestigious programs in the country. In leading this program, I promise to uphold the history of Maryland basketball and make Terp Nation proud with the men who represent this institution."

As head coach for 18 years, Williams has led his programs to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and 13 20-win seasons.
He led the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons while at Texas A&M from 2019 to 2025. He also served as head coach at Virginia Tech, Marquette and New Orleans, winning at least 100 games while at three of his four most recent schools, UMD noted.
Williams has coached, recruited or developed 16 NBA players over the course of his career.
The upcoming season will be his 32nd as a college basketball coach, 31 of which have been at the Division I level. ...read more read less
