Sunnyvale jewelry store employee chases off ramraid suspects with firearm, suspects sought: video

(KRON) -- An incident in which suspects rammed a jewelry store in an attempt to get inside and were chased off by an armed employee was caught on camera. According to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a reported robbery in progress on Saturday at around 6:30 p.m.

cers arrived on the scene at the store, Priya Jewelers, in the 800 block of East El Camino Real where a victim reported suspects twice intentionally rammed the building with a vehicle. At the second attempt, a store employee, later identified as the owner's husband, retrieved a firearm and confronted the vehicle's driver (Watch the video in the player above).
"I was standing with a customer, helping her out and Priya is inside, suddenly I heard the noise, I turn, and I saw the wall caving in," said owner Priya Vasan's husband.
Bystanders could be seen standing outside the shop throughout the incident.

The suspects, according to police, fled the scene without gaining entry to the store. No merchandise or money was taken.
"It has come as quite a shock, the robbery is, but not the support from my husband because it has always been here for four years, so I knew he'd protect me, but I really didn't think that he would go to this extent protecting us," said owner Priya Vasan.

Police located the suspect vehicle nearby a short time later. It was determined to have been stolen, and several other stolen vehicles were found in the same area. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that multiple suspects were involved, and all the stolen vehicles were also involved in the incident.
The suspects were last seen fleeing the area in a newer model minivan. The minivan was later located. It too was determined to be stolen.
"In this situation, it worked out OK, no one was hurt, there was no confrontation with a suspect, but I like to remind folks that it's property. Property isn't worth your life," said Sunnyvale DPS Capt. Dzanh Le.
