HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Heritage Green Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mechanicsville is hosting its annual community shred event later this month. The free event, which will allow people to "spring-clean" their filing cabinets, will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at 7080 Brook Farm Road in the Mechanicsville area in Hanover County. Attendees may bring up to two boxes or three bags to shred. Heritage Green will also provide complimentary coffee and pastries while waiting. Officials advise that destroying sensitive documents helps protect people's personal and private information, which they say "is the best approach when recycling old, unnecessary documents and other sensitive paperwork." Heritage Green will be accepting donations for the Greater Richmond Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
