DoorG Studio introduces new film opportunities to RI through virtual production wall

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Door-G Studio introduced New England’s tallest virtual production wall on Tuesday.
Positioned at 56-feet-wide and 14-feet-tall, the new wall allows for the creation of commercials, movies, and music videos anytime of year here in Rhode Island.
“Leveraging virt
ual production allows us to control all of the variables that you would have on location, so we can control sunlight, time of day, and weather,” Door-G Studios Head of Production Scott Maiocchi said.
The virtual wall can be a one-stop shop for filmmakers, with the live action tv series, ‘The Mandalorian,’ filmed entirely using a virtual wall.
“As a studio, trying to film outside in the middle of January is really not conducive,” Maiocchi said. “A lot of our productions would have to go to Florida or California to shoot those.”
With the use of the virtual production wall, characters can ultimately be anywhere in the world.
“What we’re doing is marrying the physical world with the digital. We have practical pieces which are the physical props that go on set, we tend to blend them with the virtual and that content is created in 3D,” Maiocchi said.
The hope for Door-G is that movie makers from all over will want to come to the Ocean State to film with the wall.
“Rhode Island has tax credit initiatives for film making and movie making that is a big draw for some of the Hollywood productions that come to town,” Maiocchi said.
