United Way RI hosts annual 401Gives fundraiser for local nonprofits
Apr 01, 2025
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Hundreds of nonprofits across Rhode Island are coming together for 401Gives, an initiative designed to make fundraising easy and impactful.
With federal funding for many organizations now unknown, the nonprofits said the need for donations is greater than ever.
“Nonp
rofits rely on federal funding to do their day-to-day work. We’re talking about victim services, childcare, and feeding Rhode Islanders every single day. When that funding is removed, they’re not able to serve – and that means people go hungry, families lose support, and communities feel the impact,” Nonprofit Impact Operations Manager Kaitlin Douglas said.
Last year, the campaign raised $3.86 million, and organizers are hopeful that this year will be the biggest yet, with a goal of $4.01 million by April 2 at 6 pm.
Organizers said 401Gives isn’t just about raising money, it’s about community.
“96% of organizations that provide basic needs are seeing demand for their services at or above pandemic levels. We’re seeing a decrease in available resources but an increase in community need. This is the time for Rhode Islanders to step up and support the organizations that are truly the backbone of our communities,” United Way Director of the Alliance for Nonprofit Impact Nancy Wolanski said.
For companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield, 401Gives is a chance to give back to the causes they’re most passionate about.
“We are a longtime participant, great supporter of the community, looking to really promote community involvement and donating to causes that you are passionate for. The community couldn’t be greater, and Blue Cross is very excited to be part of 401Gives. I personally donate, support the communities in my local community, and there’s just so many great organizations to give to in Rhode Island,” Blue Cross Blue Shield RI Director of Information Technology Bob DeFelice said.
With real-time donation updates and special matching gift opportunities, every dollar donated has the potential to go even further.
Organizers said that with every donation, Rhode Islanders are making a difference, one gift at a time.
