Tyler Legacy High School lifts 'secure status,' here's what we know

TYLER, Texas (KETK) - Tyler Legacy High School went into a 'secure status' Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious person was spotted in Rose Rudman, Tyler officials said.

Tuesday at 12:10 p.m., the school sent out a mass text informing students and staff about an armed person in the area.
"Tyler PD is in pursuit of an armed person in the park," Tyler Legacy HS said. "We are in a SECURE to be safe."
A secure status is a protocol that instructs students to stay inside and continue school business as usual until law enforcement gives the all clear.

According to the Tyler Police Department, a motorcycle officer made a traffic stop at Sybil Lane and Paluxy Drive when the person drove away. The person reportedly has a warrant for felon in possession of a firearm however officials said there is "no indication he is armed now."
The police department said he was last seen heading towards the school from where the initial stop occurred. Police have not released the identity of the man or if he has been arrested.
