Southern University football has its starting quarterback for spring game

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — This time last season, Southern University was uncertain about who its quarterback would be for the spring and the fall. This year, it's a different story for the Jags, as redshirt sophomore quarterback Jalen Woods is the clear QB1 entering spring ball.
With
Noah Bodden and Czavian Teasett both entering the transfer portal, Woods is the only returning signal-caller on the Bluff. Southern brought in two quarterbacks for depth: Jamari Jones, a transfer from East Mississippi Community College, and a freshman from Bunkie High School, Dillon Compton. Throughout spring practice, Woods has put on more muscle and has carried himself as a leader of the team by being more vocal and commanding.
"He's definitely done a great job in the strength and conditioning program," said head coach Terrence Graves. "Jalen has matured and grown up, and you can see he has confidence. He's one of the leaders; we have a number of young men who are leaders, but certainly, you always want the quarterbacks to be a part of that group of leaders. Last year was his redshirt freshman year, so he understands what we want and what we're requiring, and he's stepping up to the challenge. His confidence is there, and he's understanding the system."
Southern's spring game is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at A.W. Mumford Stadium and is open to the public.
