KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A person was arrested after admitting to having taken a tractor valued at $60,000 in Kings County, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, deputies from the Kings County Rural Crimes Unit investigated a theft reported by Westhaven Agribu
siness. The stolen items included a tractor and a disc, taken from the area of Avenal Cutoff and 30th Avenue.
The tractor is a John Deere 5100GN model valued at $60,000, accompanied by a 6 1/2 foot Domries disc valued at $4,000.
A search was conducted for the tractor in the Avenal area, and a tractor matching the description was found just north of Avenal, off Highway 33, according to detectives.
Investigators say the suspect, Enrique Teran, was questioned at the scene and confessed to taking the tractor.
Teran, according to deputies, had several active warrants from Kings County and was subsequently booked into the Kings County Jail for those warrants along with new charges, which included possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle. An enhancement was also added to his charges.
This enhancement, deputies say, was added due to the voters of California passing Prop 36 last November which adds enhancements to certain and specific property crimes.
The enhancement is defined as “when a person takes, damages, or destroys property or commits a Penal Code 496 (possession of stolen property), the court may add an enhancement if the loss or damage exceeds $50,0000, and can add a one-year state prison enhancement if convicted." ...read more read less
