Apr 01, 2025
(FOX 5) — Babs Fry is known for her uncanny ability to track down lost dogs and avoid being the center of attention, but today, the spotlight is on her.
For over a decade, Fry, who is affectionately known as the San Diego area’s “Pet Detective,” has dedicated her life to rescuing, reuniti
ng, and rehabilitating lost dogs through her nonprofit, A Way Home for Dogs.
Fry's Jamul-area ranch is now home to countless dogs supported by a team of trusted volunteers.
Lauren Bunt, a volunteer, said of Fry, "Thousands of dogs wouldn’t have made it without her. When you see the behind the scenes, you see how hard she works. It's just so well deserved."
Wendy Brock nominated Fry for Remarkable Women. "She never asks for anything. It’s all volunteer-run and donation-based."
Fry was honored as the 2025 Remarkable Woman for the San Diego area. Watch the moment when she was surprised with the news below.
Although Fry devotes all her time and money to save these pups, she admits that at the same time, they are rescuing her.
This October will mark 18 years of sobriety for Fry, who now devotes her life to second chances, both for the animals she helps rescue and for herself.
"If you can really embrace the smallest little thing from a dog that people seriously thought was a death sentence, I mean, the rewards are beyond financial. It's just amazing," she said.
