San Diego gas prices continue to climb, following state and national trend

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- California drivers continue to feel pain at the pump at the start of April, including at gas stations across San Diego.

a is about $4.87 -- about 5 cents higher than Monday's average and 20 cents higher than a week ago, according to AAA.

Prices for mid-grade and premium gas as well as diesel are also on the rise in San Diego, mirroring the spiking trend seen statewide and across the U.S.
According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of mid-grade gas is $5.04, up 17 cents from a week ago. Meanwhile, the cost for premium gas is now $5.23 compared to $5.05 last week.
The average cost of a gallon of diesel is currently about the same as it was a week ago, although it experienced a slight drop within that time-frame. As of Tuesday, a gallon cost about $4.92 compared to $4.89 the day before. The average cost for a gallon of diesel a week ago was $4.91.

According to AAA, the higher costs are due to a seasonal spike that typically happens this time of year and peaks in the summer. This is because of the switch to a summer blend of gasoline which is used per federal law during warmer months in an effort to reduce smog and other emissions.
The highest recorded average price of regular unleaded gas in California was $6.44 on June 14, 2022.
