Fire crews respond to lithium battery fire at WSU Tech

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- There was a fire at the WSU Tech City Center campus Monday evening. The fire involved a lithium battery. It happened around 7 p.m. at the campus in the 300 block of S. Grove.
A WSU Tech spokesperson says an employee saw what was happening and responded immediately with saf
ety procedures, promptly evacuating people from the building and notifying authorities.
The Wichita Fire Department arrived and dealt with the situation. The WSU Tech spokesperson said it was a "contained fire," and the WFD gave the all-clear for people to reenter the building.
Lithium battery blamed for Salina hotel fire
According to WSU Tech, there were no injuries, and the damage is minimal. The spokesperson said most of the repairs have been finished, and students returned to the affected classroom Tuesday.
She said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
"We are grateful for our employees' preparedness and quick action and for the fast response from the Wichita Fire Department," the spokesperson said.
