MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An ALDI grocery store on Union Avenue in the Edge District, just east of downtown Memphis, is hosting its grand opening on April 10 at 8:30 a.m.
The 27,000-square-foot store would be located on the site of a former Office Depot at 785 Union Avenue, across from Health Sciences Pa
rk and Sun Studio. Renderings show a bay on the east side of the space reserved for a retail tenant.

The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
ALDI will give the first 100 customers a gift bag with ALDI fan-favorite products and a gift card as part of the ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. They said shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 gift card.

As shoppers look for better ways to stretch their dollar, ALDI is providing Memphis with easier access to quality groceries at affordable prices."
ALDI, a self-described "no frills" grocery store known for private-label brands, has a dozen locations in the greater Memphis area, mostly outside the I-240 loop, according to the company's website. The Illinois-based company has more than 2,000 stores across 36 states.
There are few supermarkets near the core of Downtown, though there are several to the east in Midtown. Other options are across the bridge in West Memphis, Arkansas.
“We have been pushing for years to have a major chain grocery store in the downtown market," said Downtown Neighborhood Association of Memphis Board President Jerred Price in a Facebook post. "I’m very glad that this is coming to fruition! We love our neighbors at South Point Grocery and we want to welcome ALDI USA to the neighborhood!”
A five-story apartment building was proposed for the Union site in 2022, after the closure of the Office Depot in 2019. ...read more read less
