INDIANAPOLIS -- The office of Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced on Tuesday that Braun signed two executive orders, both of which relate to the state's approach to transportation and customer service.
According to a news release from Braun's office, the two orders help modernize technology at the
Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and streamline the permitting process for the state's transportation network.
These two orders are the latest that Braun has signed since he took office earlier this year, including orders focused on:

Executive Order 25-41: Maintaining Best-in-Class Customer Service and Ensuring Prudent Use of Taxpayer Funds by Establishing a 5-Year Strategy for Digital and Technological Advancement of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles
The release said that this order authorizes the state's Secretary of Transportation and Infrastructure to help enhance and modernize the BMV's technological systems. The bureau's System Tracking and Record Support (STARS) system was first implemented throughout the state in 2004.
Officials said that the STARS system is nearing the end of its lifespan. Braun said it is time for the bureau to "take advantage" of advances in digital technology to help it improve for Indiana residents.
“Customer service was always my top priority when I was building my business, and it’s my top priority for Hoosiers as well," Braun said in the release. "Governor Mitch Daniels revolutionized the BMV twenty years ago, and the time has now come to build on that progress with a new modernization effort. The BMV is the one place where nearly everyone interacts with their state government, and these modernization solutions will allow the BMV to deliver the best-in-class customer service Hoosiers deserve.”
Executive Order 25-42: Maintaining Best-in-Class Customer Service and Ensuring Prudent Use of Taxpayer Funds by Reforming Permitting Along Indiana's Transportation Network
Braun said in that the right-of-way and permitting operations system through the Indiana Department of Transportation "lacks consistent standards and efficiency" which he stressed could cause delays, confusion and frustration.
This order authorizes the state's Secretary of Transportation and Infrastructure to review INDOT's permitting processes and establish statewide standards. The order also authorizes the secretary to help modernize INDOT's electronic permit system and make all regulatory requirements necessary to obtain a permit visible on INDOT's website.
"The Crossroads of America has to be the gold standard for transportation permitting, and that means clarity, predictability and best-in-class customer service," Braun said in the release. "This new permitting modernization effort led by the Office of Transportation and Infrastructure will streamline the process with uniform statewide standards, an improved electronic permit system, and clear regulatory requirements available to all applicants." ...read more read less
