INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Play Ball! Tuesday evening is Opening Night for the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field. The team faces off against the Iowa Cubs in the season’s first homestand.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Mike Bu
rrows will take the start on the mound for the Indians.
Director of Communications Anna Kayser says the front office staff is excited to start the team’s 123rd season.
“We had a great season last year,” Kayser said. “[We] made a playoff push in late August, had a ton of fans here, really had great crowds backing the guys into September. We’re just really, really excited to get this place livened up and to get fans back in the ballpark.”
The Indians return to Indianapolis 0-1 after a weather-shortened opening weekend series against the St. Paul Saints.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 1-1 following their series against the Omaha Storm Chasers. Their Sunday matchup rained out.
Last year, the Indians fans caught a glimpse of NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skeens on the mound. Kayser says exciting prospects for fans to cheer for this year too.
“[Burrows] made his MLB debut and his last start last season. Really excited to see him in Indianapolis. Bubba Chandler, who likes to think of himself as the next Paul Skeens, he will be taking the mound [Wednesday],” she said.
Victory Field is bringing back some popular promotions for the 2025 season.
Tuesdays feature a dollar menu for concessions, tickets on Wednesdays are half off, drinks are special on Thirsty Thursdays, and Fridays will see fireworks after the game. Sundays this year again feature Kids Eat Free promos.
“We have a weekend with Bluey coming back. That was a fan favorite for the kids last year,” Kayser said. “We have Stranger Things coming. That’s new. Being based in Indiana, it’s going to be awesome. A lot of fan favorites coming out, a lot of daily deals will be featured.”
The Indians will be in town against the Iowa Cubs through Sunday.
Next week, they take a short road trip down I-65 to play six games against the Louisville Bats.
