DOOR COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) -- After the war in Ukraine began in 2022, the owner of Door County Candle Company, Christiana Trapani, knew she wanted to help.
"I posted a video online that day, and I just kind of said like, we're doing this fundraiser, I wanted to, you know, raise some money to help.
All of the profits we just donated to a nonprofit helping those in Ukraine. And then from there, it just, it really took off," Trapani said.

Karen Lambeck, who nominated Christiana for her efforts, said that lit a fire in her.
"The Ukraine candle really inspired, like, the company becoming a philanthropic-based company," Trapani said.
Through the Ukraine candle, more than one million dollars has been raised. Thousands of dollars have been raised for other causes, too, like for wildfire and hurricane relief.
"I kind of started saying it feels like part of our DNA to just give back," Trapani said.
"I love to see her creativity, I love to see what it is that fuels her passion. What is the next thing that's going to touch her heart, that she's going to try and raise money for." said Lambeck.
Efforts that spark hope, one candle at a time.

"It's just really showed me that never think that you're too small or you're just one person because one person can do so much. And when people come together, you can totally move mountains and make a big impact. And it's just been really inspiring to see that happen in our small little shop in Door County," said Trapani. ...read more read less
