Officers investigating after unwanted visit leads to Sumter Police chase

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Police say a call for service that stemmed from an unwanted visit led to a chase and subsequent police negotiations.
Sumter Police Department says officers were called after 11 a.m. on Monday, March 31, to a home on Mordred Street wh
ere Jacobie Genesis Conyers, 32, of Oakland Avenue, was asked to leave by the residents.
Conyers also was advised by officers to leave but returned to the home while officers were still on scene, according to Sumter PD.
Officers initiated a traffic stop on Lewis Road before Conyers sped off and eventually returned again to Mordred Street and stopped.
The driver refused officer instructions to get out of the vehicle.
After more than an hour of negotiations officers made entry into the vehicle.
SPD say during the negotiations Conyers threatened to harm himself.
Conyers was removed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital for observation.
Once released, Conyers faces charges of harassment, failure to stop for blue lights and resisting arrest.
The police department say the investigation is ongoing.
